First, toughness is closely related to the impact resistance of pressure vessels. In actual industrial environments, pressure vessels may face various unexpected impacts, such as water hammer in the pipeline system, accidental impact of external objects, etc. Materials with good toughness can absorb energy when they are impacted, preventing the container from sudden rupture or catastrophic damage. Like an elastic shield, it will not be easily broken by a sudden external force, but will buffer and disperse energy through its own toughness.
Second, toughness plays an irreplaceable role in resisting crack propagation.
