Natural gas, as a clean and efficient energy source, occupies an important position in the modern energy system. And pressure vessels play an irreplaceable role in the storage and transportation of natural gas.
In terms of natural gas storage, pressure vessels are key equipment. Large above-ground or underground gas storage tanks are widely used. Above-ground gas storage tanks can be easily monitored and maintained, and they can withstand the pressure of natural gas through special structural design and material selection. These gas storage tanks ensure that there is enough natural gas reserves to meet peak demand when there is an imbalance between natural gas supply and demand. Underground gas storage also relies on the principle of pressure vessels. It uses natural caves or artificially excavated spaces underground to store natural gas under strictly sealed and pressurized conditions. This storage method is not only safe, but also can store natural gas on a large scale, ensuring the stability of natural gas supply.

In the natural gas transportation link, pressure vessels are even more indispensable. In pipeline transportation, the pipeline itself is a kind of pressure vessel, and its design must be able to withstand the high pressure of natural gas during long-distance transportation. At the same time, for some areas that cannot be directly transported by pipeline, such as islands or remote mountainous areas, liquefied natural gas (LNG) transportation has become an important option. LNG is natural gas cooled to about -162°C to become liquid, thereby greatly reducing its volume. The storage tanks in LNG transport ships and the storage tanks at LNG receiving stations on land are both pressure vessels. These pressure vessels need to use special insulation materials and high-strength metal materials to ensure the safe storage and transportation of liquefied natural gas at a low temperature of -162°C. Pressure vessels ensure the safe and efficient use of energy in natural gas storage and transportation.
