Pressure vessels are widely used in many industrial fields, and their sealing is crucial. Once a leak occurs, it will not only cause energy waste and product loss, but also may cause safety accidents. The following are some effective methods for leak detection of pressure vessels.
1. Visual inspection method
This is the most intuitive detection method. The inspector directly observes the surface of the pressure vessel to check whether there are signs of leakage, such as whether there are bubbles, whether there is frost (for low-temperature pressure vessels or containers containing low-temperature media), whether there is liquid seepage, etc. This method is suitable for situations where the leakage volume is large and the leakage point is obvious. Although it is simple, it can play an important role in preliminary detection.

2. Pressure change detection method
Connect pressure vessels to pressure detection equipment and observe the pressure changes over a certain period of time. If there is a leak in the container, its internal pressure will gradually decrease. By accurately measuring the rate of pressure drop and comparing it with the allowable pressure drop standard, it is possible to determine whether the container is leaking and the severity of the leak. This method also has a certain detection capability for small leaks, and the location of the leak can be preliminarily determined based on the characteristics of pressure changes.
3. Gas leak detection method
Soap bubble method
Apply soap liquid to the suspected leaking part. If there is a leak, the leaked gas will form soap bubbles on the soap liquid. This method is simple and easy to use and can be used to detect smaller leaks, but it is only suitable for low-pressure vessels and has limited detection accuracy.
Gas leak detector detection
Use a special gas leak detector, such as a helium leak detector. Fill helium into pressure vessels. If there is a leak in the container, helium will leak out. The leak detector can accurately detect the amount and location of helium leakage. This method has extremely high sensitivity and is suitable for detecting small leaks, especially in the detection of pressure vessels with extremely high sealing requirements.
4. Ultrasonic detection method
When there is a leak in a pressure vessel, an ultrasonic signal will be generated at the leak. By receiving these signals through ultrasonic detection equipment and analyzing and processing them, the location and amount of the leak can be determined. This method can detect at a long distance without direct contact with the container, and can quickly locate the leak point.
In actual pressure vessel leak detection, a variety of detection methods are often used in combination to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the detection.
